"Volunteering is a great learning experience.... at any age".Do you have time on your hands? Would you like to make a difference in your community, to a person who needs additional help, or maybe you just want to feel better about yourself? SEICAA utilizes hundreds ofvolunteers annually. Without volunteers, the many innovative projects andthousands of people the agency assists each year would not be possible. Listedbelow are many volunteer opportunities for you or your organization. SEICAA Volunteer Opportunities StoneSoup: - Annual fund raiser for SEICAA
- The fund raiser is usually held in October.
- Every dollar raised is used to help participants – No funds are used to pay administrative expenses
- The funds are non-discretionary
- Example: If a participant falls and breaks their eyeglasses, we can use the money raised at Stone Soup to help them buy new glasses. Otherwise, we wouldn't have any avenue for helping this participant.
- In advance - Volunteers needed to help with ticket sales, vendor solicitations, gathering donations
- Day of event – Decoration help, kitchen help, clean up, and general support
Housing Services: - Help organize activities
- Help organize library
CommunityServices: - School Supply Drives:
- Helps a young person start school with a new box of crayons or notebook
- Great opportunity for groups or organizations
- Involves setting up a table in front of Kmart or Walmart, asking customers to help and collecting any donations
- Personal Hygiene Drives:
- Food stamps doesn't buy personal hygiene items
- Another great opportunity for groups or organizations
- Similar to School Supply Drives
- Adopt A Family:
- Program to buy Christmas gifts for a family in need
- Good for organizations, families or individuals
- Also need help wrapping presents and organizing gifts for families
- Simply Christmas:
- Businesses and families donate and decorate Christmas trees that are displayed at the mall. The trees are then delivered to families in need.
- Volunteers are needed to donate and decorate Christmas trees
- Volunteers are needed to deliver trees (last year we had 50 trees to deliver)
- Shop With A Cop
- Volunteers needed to help set up tables, distribute money, match children with officers
- Other Opportunities:
- Mentoring Children of Prisoners
- Volunteers needed to mentor a child (5-17 years of age) who has a mother or father in the prison system
- These children need a friend and a role model
- A commitment of one year is required and we ask that you spend at least one hour per week with the child
- A 10 hour training session is provided for all volunteers
- A background check is also completed on all volunteers which is paid for by the Agency
- A support group is held once a month for the mentors involved
- Mentoring Children
- Also need volunteers to mentor a child (not necessarily in the prison system)
Meals on Wheels: - Substitute drivers are needed
- Must be 18 years of age
- Own a vehicle
- Some lifting is involved
- Office Support
- Volunteer needed to work 4 hours/day (8-12)
Mutual Self-Help Housing and RehabilitationProgram: - Volunteers to work on all stages of construction.
- Volunteers needed to help lay sod, put up fences
- Great Scout project!
In addition to volunteering your time, you will be enrolled in the agency's volunteer insurance program. In the event you are injured while serving as a volunteer for the agency, your injuries will be covered. If your volunteer service requires travel, you will also receive travel reimbursement at the rate of $.18 per mile. Volunteers come in all ages and ethnic, social and economic backgrounds.Their service may to be in their community, with low-income families, or at the agency itself.
